Policy contacts

The main contact point for co-ordination of disability policy at the national level is:

  • Ministarstvo socijalne politike i mladih, Sektor za osobe s invaliditetom, Ministry of Social Policy and Youth (Former Ministry of Family, Veterans' Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity), Department for People with Disability. The Ministry implements measures, and monitors and coordinates implementation of of the National Strategy of Equalisation of Possibilities for Persons with Disabilities from 2007 to 2015. anddraws up a joint report on the implementation of measures. It is responsible for advancement of policy and promotion of rights of persons with disability and it makes proposals for national strategies, programmes, laws and other regulations that deal with persons with disability. It also works together with experts, science, government, non-governmental institutions and civil society organisations in country and abroad, and international institutions in the field, regarding the advancement of disability policy .

Facts and figures

Croatia has 4,290,612 inhabitants, according to preliminary results of the 2011 census (Central Bureau of Statistics). In the Republic of Croatia, as at 10th January 2011, there were 531,506 persons with disabilities registered, of which 318,169 males (59.9%) and 213,337 females (40.1%), comprising approximately 12% of the total population of the Republic of Croatia.

Disabled people’s organisations

The national assembly representing disabled people’s organisations is:

  • Union of Associations of Persons with Disabilities in Croatia (SOIH). The Union of Associations of Persons with Disabilities in Croatia (SOIH) is an umbrella association representing 250 local organisations of persons with all kinds of disability from all parts of Croatia. The SOIH network includes eight national Unions of organisations for persons with disability as full members, and two associate members. SOIH is an observer member of EDF.
