Data and research

There are no established networks for disability research and no disability studies in Serbia. There are initiatives and projects that aim to explore and document problems and the position and situation of rights of persons with disabilities, but these efforts have not been networked so far.

Disabled people’s organisations

The national assembly representing disabled people’s organisations is:

National organisation of persons with disabilities of Serbia (NOOIS-NOPDS)

The national organisation of persons with disabilities of Serbia is an umbrella organisation of 11 national organisations of persons with different types of disabilities. Membership of NOPDS is available for all associations of persons with disability. NOPDS is an observer member of European Disability Forum.

Serbia signed the Conventionon the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Optional Protocol on 17 December 2007 and ratified them on 31 July 2009. ("Official Gazette of RS - International Treaties", no. 42/2009, from 2 June 2009).
