Indicators of Disability Equality in Europe (IDEE)

During 2009 a working group was formed to develop preliminary proposals for qualitative and quantitative indicators, in consultation with the ANED Network and other relevant actors engaged in indicator development work, including Eurostat, the World Health Organisation and the Council of Europe. The purpose of the group was to agree an outline approach to developing comparative indicators and to produce recommendations for a preliminary list that could be proposed for wider consultation and piloting.

A wide range of proposals were considered in discussion, in relation to the challenges posed by the UN Convention and existing European indicator sets. A new framework for comparative monitoring was proposed under the title ‘Indicators of Disability Equality in Europe (IDEE)'. Developing the work done by ANED in 2008, this included proposals for three types of indicators (both qualitative and quantitative) in six domains.

A full list of qualitative and quantitative indicator proposals was included in the synthesis report prepared by Mark Priestley and Anna Lawson on behalf of the ANED working group.
